Do Kwon reportedly arrested in Montenegro — The co-founder and CEO of Terra, Do Kwon, has reportedly been arrested in Montenegro. The news comes after Kwon allegedly failed to appear in court in South Korea over a fraud-related case. Kwon’s company, Terra, is a blockchain-based payment system that has gained popularity in the Korean market.
SEC files lawsuit against Tron’s Justin Sun and celebrities over crypto securities offering — The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed a lawsuit against Tron founder Justin Sun, alleging that he and three celebrities participated in an unregistered securities offering. The SEC alleges that Sun and the other defendants sold more than $2 billion worth of Tron’s native cryptocurrency, TRX, to US investors without properly registering the offering. The lawsuit seeks disgorgement of ill-gotten gains, civil penalties, and an injunction against future violations of the securities laws.
The UAE central bank signs deal for CBDC strategy — The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) central bank has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Arab Monetary Fund to establish a framework for a central bank digital currency (CBDC) strategy. The MOU aims to facilitate cooperation between the two institutions in developing a CBDC strategy, including exploring the use of blockchain technology. The UAE has been working to develop its digital currency capabilities and recently launched a blockchain-based Know Your Customer (KYC) platform.
