Crypto Bank Silvergate Capital Losing Customers Amid Regulatory Scrutiny — Silvergate Capital, a crypto bank, has been experiencing a decline in customers after revealing in a regulatory filing that it may be “less than well-capitalized” and re-evaluating its business. A number of well-known crypto businesses, including Coinbase, Circle, Paxos, and Gemini, have started to reduce their relationships with Silvergate. The bank has also come under close regulatory and political scrutiny, with its CEO criticized for being “evasive” in response to inquiries. In addition, the bank suspended its Silvergate Exchange Network product, which allows for quick transfers between investors and crypto exchanges.
Dapper Labs CEO Accused of Bullying Staff and Excessive Luxury Spending — Roham Gharegozlou, CEO of Dapper Labs, the company behind NBA Top Shot, has been accused of bullying employees by publicly shaming them on Slack or screaming at them during video calls. Gharegozlou also reportedly traveled on private jets and stayed in luxurious accommodations. The news of his excessive travel budget and luxury lifestyle has disappointed the staff, who have faced two layoffs in the last six months.
Visa Denies Reports of Delaying Crypto Integration Plans — Visa’s plans to integrate crypto have been in the spotlight recently following a Reuters report that the payments giant was holding off on its crypto integration plans due to recent high-profile failures in the crypto sector. However, Visa’s head of crypto, Cuy Sheffield, countered the report in a tweet, claiming that the Reuters story was inaccurate. Another Visa spokesperson also confirmed that the company remains committed to its crypto strategy, focusing on growing its core competencies in web3 infrastructure layers and evaluating blockchain protocols driving crypto development.
